S2E05 Adam site content. *SPOILERS*
[NOTE FROM IANTO]
I was carrying-out my usual security checks on the Hub mainframe this morning, and we've lost a lot of data over the last two days... nearly everything in fact. It corresponds to the period none of us can remember. And I've found a fragment of a file (attached) - a picture of somebody.
I don't recognise them. It looks like someone has tried to delete it along with everything else - covering their tracks perhaps? Have we been broken into? The authorisation to delete was digitally signed from Jack. He says he doesn't recognise him either (though Jack has pretended not to recognise people in the past, for quite different reasons).
Jack says he doesn't remember anything either, but he's got one thought that comes up as soon as he tries to think about it: leave well alone. I pointed out that could have been planted there by someone or something with the right skills, but Jack says it could well have been something we need to not know. I don't like the idea of that, but he could well be right. So don't dig into this. That's why I'm leaving this note here. Leave well alone.

"IT'S ALL IN THE MIND"
In the course of your duties you may well encounter mind-altering influences. Here we offer a quick rundown on the most common types and how to deal with them.
HYPNOSIS
The most common type. Contrary to popular belief, there is no overwhelming need for hypnotists to employ fob watches, pendulums et al, though some do. In most cases you will encounter, such devices will not be necessary. Human hypnotists are likely to have genetically mutated and developed psychic abilities. Many aliens have an innate ability to hypnotise. Others have developed technologies which perform the same function.
All are resolved by deprogramming the subject, which we usually do in front of the giant, pattern-generating screens in our Mesmerism Zones - which have also proved a popular way for staff members to spend their free time.
MIND CONTROL
Often more accurate than hypnosis, but easier for us to identify and shake off. The higher the level of control, the more out of character the victim will probably appear - this is usually the tell-tale sign. If you suspect one of your colleagues has fallen victim to mind control, try asking them some simple personal questions to which you already know the answers. It may be as simple as asking how they take their tea.
Mind control usually involves a communications device implanted in or near the brain. Exterior implants need to be disguised, so keep an eye out for colleagues unexpectedly wearing hats. The implant needs to be identified and removed. There is a small risk of brain damage in the removal process, so never try to remove an implant yourself.
MEMORY ALTERATION
Some of our more advanced adversaries have got quite good at this. This involves editing the subject's memories and creating false ones. They might fabricate experiences that would turn you against your colleagues, for example. Alternatively they may insert themselves into your memory, making you think they themselves are a trusted colleague to whom secrets can be revealed.
We are analysing their techniques and are getting better at combating them. We are also increasingly able to replicate them and may use them on our own operatives, strictly for your own protection. The majority of those affected by our memory alteration techniques never notice. Should you notice something untoward, let your superiors know. We can then establish whether your memory has indeed been affected, and whether this was done officially or by agents working against us. If this was officially sanctioned, further treatment may be necessary.
Please do not resist this: it only makes matters more complicated.

Monday
Some minor fluctuations in rift patterns this morning. Tosh is monitoring and logging readings with the redox filter but isn't too concerned about these at present.
Gwen went to investigate the spikes at the source to make sure that the receptors weren't tweaking whilst Jack and I recovered a weapon of sorts from the Barrage egress sweep.
This went ahead as per last month but we were pleased to find this before anyone else did, as it looks like it could do a bit of damage.
Jack didn't recognise it, but says that it could be of Parran origin, and if this was the case, it could "take out Penarth with a single action".
Owen says that it looks like a "Metal spider with a 15 inch nob" and whilst, I'd like to describe it more eloquently, I must say that he's hit the nail on the head.
I have logged it in as 'Parran Spider Blaster' and stored it accordingly in the vault for safe keeping.
Tuesday
Tosh picked up readings on the atmospheric resonator that were unusual.
The frequency levels were suggestive of a Plunge Ship entering our atmosphere, so we monitored all sea and sky traffic to make sure that this wasn't any more than a passing visit.
Jack says that Plunge Ships take cover in deep water whilst using the salt in the water for fuel, so he and Owen went out to look for any obvious signs of activity in the Bay area.
The AR readings spiked again at around 1500 hours so we can only assume that the ship has departed from our atmosphere and moved on to pastures new.
Just as well, as apparently the Goors are a tricky kind, not to be messed with.
Wednesday
Jack, Gwen and Owen brought in a Sheklon Light Aurora from the woodland around Castell Coch today.
Tosh picked up on a call from the emergency services closed line filter that a light source had been reported coming from the woods, so Torchwood went out to intercept. On closer investigation, a telephone engineer had been digging to get access to an underground cable duct and had inadvertently struck the Aurora, activating it in the process.
He was lucky in as much as he only lost one eye and had a vicious sun-tan on his left side as a result.

PERSONNEL REPORT
Smith, Adam
Author: Cooper, G
It's hard to know what to say in this report that hasn't been said before. Adam remains a valuable and highly popular member of the Torchwood Cardiff team, and his contributions in the past year have been massive. All of us have to do things that fall outside our job description, but Adam was originally brought in as a translator and mediator and has gone a long way beyond that.
We all valued Adam's decisiveness during the Lisa Hallett incident: it was an emotive situation and he took the lead. This did cause some friction between Adam and Ianto, but the air has cleared between them now. Similarly, when Susie Costello came back to life and took me hostage, Adam had some hard decisions to make to say the least. Of all the team, he was probably closest to Susie, and it obviously affected him deeply to be the one who shot her. But without him, that situation would've been a great deal worse. I owe him my life.
Adam was out of action during the Abaddon crisis, through no fault of his own. The lack of harmony in the team at that time showed just how much we depend on him. With his mediation, the situation would never have got so bad. Additionally, he held the team together during Jack's absence, and was of great personal help to me in co-ordinating the team. And that's where Adam has really come into his own: he's someone we can all go to with our problems. All the team confide in him and he's done a great deal to combat the stress inherent in being a member of Torchwood.
My only concern is whether he has anyone to talk to about himself: perhaps sometimes we take him for granted. Though he's got Toshiko, of course.
